NYC Chocolate Festival or Bust!!!

16 Oct

So here is our latest trip to go on…

We will be going to check out the New York Chocolate festival and were planning on flying originally but have decided to make it a road trip. Quite possibly the stuff of legend as chocolate and cheese goes.

Here is a list of the cities we are going through. If you have a knowledge of something chocolate or cheese related on our trip plan please, by all means, let us know. We will photo & blog as much as we can along the way but definitely welcome your input.

  • November 3rd 2010 we leave from Bandon, OR making a dead run for Kansas City, MO. Kevin really has a hankering for Arthur Bryants BBQ there!
  • Then…north through Iowa (Maytag Blue) in route to Madison, WI for the “original Wisconsin Cheese Festival”.
  • Waukeegan, IL (Nielsen-Massey Vanilla)
  • Chicago
  • Detroit
  • Niagara Falls
  • Montreal (ohh chocolates & desserts here we come
  • Vermont (home to 50 artisan cheese creameries)
  • Upper Hudson Valley, NY (more cheese creameries)
  • NY chocolate festival
  • Hershey, PA
  • Gettysburg, PA
  • Pennsylvania Dutch Country
  • Washington, DC
  • Nashville, TN (Jacks BBQ is Kevin’s #2 favorite BBQ place)
  • Memphis, TN
  • Dallas, TX
  • Roswell, NM ( duh? Aliens!)
  • Albuquerque, NM
  • Grand Canyon, AZ
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Sacramento, CA (Fats Bistro We can’t wait to see you!)
  • and home to Bandon to get the Thankgiving special orders done!

Did I mention we are doing this in 18 days??? We don’t get away from the shop often so we are making the most of our time off and this is a great way to find inspiration for new things in our shop!

Let us know if you have a “must see” along our route.

Ha ha! (Duh! Aliens!) I’m glad that’s one of the last stops… you know, in case you get abducted. At least you’ll go happy.

Today when we talked about this road trip I forgot to mention Lou Malnati’s Pizza in Chicago. That’s where I’m originally from. They really do have the best deep dish pizza in the world. I think the mozzarella on their pizza is homemade by some small local dairy there. Worth a stop if you’re hungry in Chicago. And who isn’t??

    Have fun!

Seriously….Hershey’s in PA?? Been there, done that and it’s okay, but not worth it if you have to go out of your way to get there. However, we all know I am geographically and directionally challenged so for all I know you may have to go right through the town!! The history of how it came to be is interesting, though!! Be safe…love to all!
